VICTOR WIEBE GOOSSEN
Victor Wiebe Goossen was born to Jacob F. and Mary Wiebe Goossen on May 12, 1925 at Rosenort, Manitoba. He peacefully passed away at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach MB on February 25, 2026 reaching the age of 100 years. He seemed unruffled by the fact that he was 100, saying “it's just one more day.”
Dad grew up in Rosenort, MB, the second oldest of nine children. He attended a one room school, less than a mile away. Dad was converted during the 1940 series of revival meetings, along with many other young people. He was baptized and added to the church on March 31, 1940 by Min. Frank Wenger. He loved the church and remained faithful to the end. His concern was that the church would keep the faith.
Dad fell in love with our mother when she came from Montezuma, Kansas to the north country to visit her sister, Martha. They were married on September 2, 1951 by Min. David J. Koehn. God blessed them with over 68 years together.
Dad was involved in Tract Work for many years. Dad, ever the dreamer and optimist, joined with Lloyd Goossen to start Lark Printing. They started with a small printing press, printing tracts and Sunday School books. He had an avid interest in music. The first song book they designed and printed was drawn with templates of enlarged note shapes. They then started Rainbow Ripples (a children's magazine) and Write 'n Sing. This led to larger song book printing, using people's favorite songs. Out of this came the Christian Endeavor books plus others. By this time they were able to use computer programs for music typesetting.
Dad loved to travel and we made many enjoyable trips to Kansas to visit family, Arizona to visit uncle Irvy’s, to California and to Abbotsford, BC. Spending a short time in Fritch, Texas, as house-parents in a rebuilding unit was a highlight for them. Also helping in Summer Vacation Bible School in Greasewood, Arizona and Fort Vermilion, Alberta were highlights.
Dad was blessed with good health for many years. When he was 88 years old he had a stroke which changed his life. Dad and Mom moved into an assisted living center in Rosenort. Bev moved in beside them, as their faithful caregiver. This was a big adjustment, going from an independent life, to being dependent on others.
In 2018 due to Mom’s declining health, they moved into the Maplewood Manor. Mom passed away on January 6, 2020. Dad was very lonely for his dear wife and often would comment about the good years they had had together.
Those left with fond memories are: one daughter, Beverly, Steinbach, MB and one son, Chester and Ada of Gretna, MB; four grandchildren, Chad and Heidi Goossen, Penn Laird, VA, Luke and Cheryl Goossen, presently in Carrefour, Togo, Beth and Escar Funk, Altona, MB presently in Aldama, Mexico, and Matthew and Cherith Goossen, Altona, MB; 15 great-grandchildren; Dad’s Family: Percy Goossen and Ella and Gladwin Penner, all at Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB. Mom’s Family: one sister Frances Penner, Steinbach, MB; one brother Walter and Ruth, Montezuma, KS and one brother-in-law George Epson, Texas;
Dad was preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two brothers and four sisters.
The funeral service was held on Monday, March 2, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., at Rosenort Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, Rosenort, MB.
As a family, we wish to express our appreciation for the loving care given to our father by our sister Beverly, and also to the workers at the Heritage Apartments, Rosenort and the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach.
